Works with Shelterluv

Already on Shelterluv? Keep it.

Shelterluv stays your system of record. Connect it with your own API key and your animals come over with their photos, breeds, and intake dates, so nobody types an animal in twice. Your fosters get Second Tail.

Read only: nothing in Shelterluv ever changes, and medical records stay there. Shelterluv approves API access for your account first, so it’s worth asking them early.

For fosters
When they’re ready for a home

Adoptions, with the foster who knows them best.

Your fosters know these animals better than anyone, so they help tell the story and meet the family. Your team keeps the decisions, the payments, and the donations, all in the same place, with no separate adoption tool.

  1. Your foster tells their storyFoster
When an animal is ready, their foster is asked for the photos and the story only they know, and sends it to you from their phone.
  2. You approve it, it goes liveYour team
One switch puts the animal on your rescue's public adoption page. The foster hears the moment it's up.
  3. Applications come to youYour team
Adopters apply right on the animal's page. Every application lands on your home page, and your team makes the call.
  4. Meet and greets, togetherYour teamFoster
Book it from the application and include the foster. It lands on their calendar with the adopter's name and number, so nobody relays texts.
  5. Signed and paid onlineYour team
Approved adopters sign your adoption contract and pay the fee through Stripe, straight to your rescue, and can add a donation. The foster gets word their animal is going home.
  6. Trial adoptions, if you do themYour team
Start a trial from the application. The adopter gets emails with the dates, your team gets check-in reminders, and the end date is on your calendar.
  7. Fosters never handle money or decide who adopts. Payments go to your rescue’s own Stripe account, and Second Tail never holds them. Signing moves the animal to Adoption Pending on its own, and adopted animals move to your Alumni page.
  • A donate page, and fundraisers for one animalYour rescue gets its own page to share anywhere. When one animal needs help, run a fundraiser with a photo and a progress bar.
  • Monthly givingDonors can give every month from your donate page, and manage or cancel it themselves from an emailed link, with no account.
  • Thank-yous and tax receipts, sent for youEvery donor gets a thank-you email and a tax receipt automatically, so nobody is writing them at midnight.
  • Your donor list, in a spreadsheetExport your donors and gifts whenever you need them. They're your donors.
  • Gifts go straight to your rescue’s own Stripe account, and Second Tail never holds them. Donors can cover the fees when they give.
Donations

Let people help, without another tool.

The people who love your animals already want to give. Your rescue gets somewhere to send them, and the gifts show up on your home page next to everything else.

Common questions

Real answers to what rescues ask first.

Do my fosters have to pay?

No. Fosters never pay, on any plan, and every plan includes as many of them as you can recruit.

How is this different from Shelterluv or PetPoint?

Shelter software treats fosters as records in a database. Second Tail gives them an app they actually open, so updates, photos, and requests come to your team without chasing. Already on Shelterluv? Keep it. Connect it with your own API key and your animals come over with their photos, then new intakes show up every day, so nobody types an animal in twice.

Can my whole volunteer team use it?

Yes. Every plan includes unlimited staff and volunteers, with teams so the right people see the right animals and requests.

Does it help us find new fosters?

Yes. Recruitment gives you a public foster application and an approval queue, so applications land in one place instead of an inbox. You can also show the animals who need a foster right on that page, so people apply for the one they fell for. Newsletters let you email your whole network about animals who need a home.

Can adopters apply and pay online?

Yes. Every rescue gets a free public adoption page, with a page for each animal and an apply form. When you approve someone, you send them a secure link, and they can sign your adoption contract and pay the fee through Stripe, straight to your rescue's own account. Adopters can add a donation for the next animal while they're at it. Doing a trial adoption first? That's built in too, with emails to the adopter.

Can fosters and adopters sign agreements online?

Yes. Upload your foster agreement and your adoption contract once. People sign from a link on their phone, with no account, and get a signed copy by email. You're told when it's done, and the signed copy stays on the foster's or the animal's profile.

Can people donate to our rescue?

Yes. Your rescue gets its own donate page, and you can run a fundraiser for one animal with a photo and a progress bar. Donors can give monthly and manage or cancel it themselves from an emailed link. Thank-you emails and tax receipts go out automatically, and you can export your donors to a spreadsheet. The money goes straight to your own Stripe account, and donors can cover the fees.

Does it work on a phone?

All of it does, for your team and for your fosters. Add Second Tail to your home screen and it opens like an app, with push notifications. There's nothing to download from an app store.

Where does my data live?

Securely in the US. Your data is yours: we don't sell it, share it, or train models on it.
